Why Foundations & CIC?
Healthy soil isn’t one-size-fits-all. Learn what yours needs, then learn to build it yourself.
You want stronger, healthier plants. You want plants that hold up better against pests, disease, and drought, and you want to rely less on chemical inputs to get there.
Conventional practices treat every farm, pasture, and garden the same. They treat soil as an inert medium to hold plant roots while providing N-P-K nutrients to make plants grow.
But...
WHEN the biological world of the soil food web is intact IT provides everything plants need not only to survive, but to thrive!
If you have ever heard “You should feed the soil, not the plants” and know it's true, but never really knew what it meant or how to do it, this program is for you!
On Demand Training
Instant access to 100% of the FC content.
Upon enrollment, you will select your preferred 2027 CIC cohort and gain access to those materials closer to when the 10-week experience begins.
Our first CIC cohort session in 2027 runs Jan 11-Mar 26
All programs include recorded videos you can watch online when it's convenient for you. Replay them as many times as you want for deeper learning.
Live Group Training
The FCs come with monthly live webinars hosted by our mentors, and guest speakers sharing practical advice and thorough explanations of our course material and related topics
The CIC is a 10 week timed cohort where everyone begins and ends at the same time.
Once per week for each of the ten weeks, you will meet in a live video call for 90 minutes with a Soil Food Web expert mentor, where they will answer all of your questions from the previous week's lessons.
Private Community
Gain instant access to the SFW Student community and an exclusive space for FC students only.
When the CIC begins, you will gain exclusive access to a CIC community where you can interact with your mentors and other Students in your CIC experience.
In every community, we foster an open culture of Q&A and sharing to maximize learning, impact, and community building.
Ongoing Access
The FCs are a self-paced masterclass that you will retain access to for as long as the program exists.
You retain access to CIC materials after you complete the ten-week live sessions. However, the ten-week live sessions have a definite beginning and end, and you must attend each week during that time
Our first CIC cohort session in 2027 runs Jan 11-Mar 26

All current proposed CIC times for 2027 are:
Jan 11 - Mar 26
May 10 - July 25*
Aug 30 - Nov 7*
*All times are subject to slight changes. We will work with you, within reason, based on your needs and our available 2027 cohort opportunities as each session approaches.
You may select to participate in one of the three 2027 CIC Cohort experiences currently planned.
Beyond the end of 2027, we cannot guarantee participation in a CIC cohort experience.
All programs in this bundle (All 4 foundation courses and the CIC Cohort experience) are 100% fully online. You do not need to be in any particular location to fully participate in these courses
You do, however, need reliable internet access that is strong enough to watch streaming videos and join live conference calls with video. You also need access to a device that can connect to the internet.
For the CIC, you will be actively building compost piles, so you need reliable access to a location to build, monitor, and store your compost pile.
FC course materials are instantly available.
Once you confirm your CIC cohort dates on the intake form, you will gain access to the course in its entirety.
We recommend that you enjoy the lessons but be prepared to re-watch and participate in the weekly class timeline with the cohort once classes begin. The power of a group-based learning experience is that everyone learns and builds as they go. It will not be beneficial to come to week one classes asking questions about week 7 lessons, though we do not restrict you from forging ahead in the lessons if you want to.
Many people find it beneficial to review them more than once.
Participation in the live courses, assignments, and building of the piles are essential requirements for success in this course and required for graduation.
But besides thefinal Course Completion step, all materials are available from day 1.
These times are subject to change based on the needs of the students who fill this cohort. We make every effort to provide at least one weekly option that works for all students.
General proposed times are as follows:
Mondays
12pm UTC+1 (London), 5pm EDT (NYC), 8pm PDT (LA)
Wednesdays
8am UTC+1 (London), 12:30pm IST (New Delhi), 6pm (UTC+11) (Sydney)
Fridays
5pm UTC+1 (London), 12pm EDT (NYC), 3pm PDT (LA),
No. The course is designed for everyone!
Join if you are new to the Soil Food Web School and have never participated in any of our other programs. Students in any stage of our other programs are also welcome to join.
Yes. The course includes thermophilic pile management, windrows, USDA thermal composting, and large-scale composting concepts.
Yes, to receive a certificate of completion and be considered a graduate of this course, you must attend at least 8 of the 10 weeks of sessions.
While recordings will be available, your live attendance is what is recorded toward completion of the course.
Even if you have no questions, you will learn from the conversation and learning that occurs while others ask questions.
Multiple classroom days and times will be made available each week to accommodate the cohort participants. We ask that you attend on the same day and time each week whenever possible, but you may switch to a different day and time in any given week if you cannot attend your regular cohort selection.
The CIC can be used to satisfy the BioComplete™ Compost Production requirement of the Consultant Pathway. Students will acquire and practice the same essential skills, alongside a cohort of peers in an accelerated fashion.
Because 10 weeks is only enough time to build, monitor, and assess 2 compost piles, students will still need to create an additional third pile to prepare for the Field Trial. Please reach out to student support at [email protected] if you require any further clarification
Our Foundation Courses and the Compost Intensive Course require no prerequisites to enroll. All are welcome.
Yes. The course is structured step-by-step and is suitable for motivated beginners, gardeners, homesteaders, farmers, and regenerative agriculture practitioners.
Advanced composters will also benefit from this course as we cover 3 types of composting (Thermophilic, vermicompost, and USDA thermal composting, as well as large-scale windrow management) to help broaden your skills and ability to create compost solutions for various scenarios and needs.
Yes, the goal of the CIC is to provide hands-on practice and make two piles by the completion of the 10-week course.
Yes. If you're not satisfied with this program, you have 30 days from purchase or attendance at up to 3 of our live sessions (whichever comes first) to request a refund.
After that, we can't consider refund requests.
The Foundation Courses require no equipment.
